SHEEZ, that kid. He can sleep through the night just fine but during the day he HAS to wake up howling after EXACTLY THIRTY MINUTES of nap. I can seriously time it. Sometimes he finds his thumb again before building up to a serious howl, and then falls asleep again for an hour or even two, but most of the time he starts screaming too quickly and then is screaming so hard that he can't sleep again, although he obviously NEEDS to sleep again, and nothing I will do will help him because everything makes him scream LOUDER. I wish I knew what was so horrifying about waking up from a nap so I could make it go away.

Seriously, our kids are exactly the same. It's starting to get spooky. Most days I can pat Nora on the back (since she's tummy napping) and even if it takes five minutes, she will absolutely go back to sleep. Most days. Today was not one of those days.

Edward went through this. I took to sitting outside his room and rushing in to appease him at the slightest noise in order to kinda re-train him to nap. It worked pretty well and took less than a week. John is starting down this path as well. Wish he'd take his thumb instead of flinging his binky across the crib and out the slats...frustrating! :)

I either don't make it in time, or my being there WAKES him, I'm not sure which. But we've been totally off schedule over the weekend so we'll see how the week goes.

I have a book that addresses problems like that. I shall research the answer and let you know, and this woman is very anti-letting-the-kid-cry-it-out so it's not anything scary. :)

ACtually people who are very anti-crying-it-out scare me! They're the ones who call you a child abuser if you EVER let your child cry!

She's not like that...she maintains that there ARE times you need to let a baby cry. Just that abruptly changing their sleeping routine and then expecting them to just deal with it is a little beyond their means. And she's horrified that people let their kids "feberize" for over two hours at the first go. She's more "gentle transitions" than anything.

The people on my [livejournal.com profile] april2007babies community go overboard with it. Well, just a few of them, they're very vocal about it. This thread (http://community.livejournal.com/april2007babies/428781.html?nc=20) annoyed me, it annoyed me everytime someone said "CIO is CRUEL," as if it rated up there with starving your child or screaming at it. Notice the conversation between [livejournal.com profile] iamdamanda and myself-- I friended her soon after this!
