Hello, Yuletide Writer! Welcome to my request letter!

EDIT: OH YES, I'm more than open to treats!

My overarching DNW is smut-- in fact with these particular fandoms I'm not interested in any shipping whatsoever, besides acknowledging the existence of canonical relationships (ie, Melanie and Oliver in Legion). Otherwise I'm pretty open. I am a fan of quirkiness, so don't be afraid to be silly or out there or meta-- I have nothing against and in fact often enjoy crack, AUs, and crossovers, as long as the characters themselves are true.

LEGION: as usual (for the whole two years I've been doing this), I'm hoping to get to read a Cary and Kerry story that I don't have to write first (click on Legion in AO3. Click on Cary or Kerry. Note who wrote most of the fics about them in the past five years). I'd particularly enjoy some Summerland-set fics-- there's so much that could have happened there between its founding and closing (and heck, no reason to keep it closed-- AU of D3 never finds Summerland, yay!)

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: Here's your chance to lean in to the quirky. If you can capture the off the wall tone and Doreen's energy and optimism, yay! Be funny! I would also not be adverse to you bringing in references from Shannon Hale's middle grade Squirrel Girl novels.

The Mysterious Benedict Society: I know I technically can't Formally Request what I most want from an MBS fic since one of the characters in question isn't on the list, but here's my suggestion I'm putting out there: I am fascinated by Kate and Milligan's relationship, and would love a story about their trying to work out how to be a family again. Of course, there's a found family theme with ALL the characters so you won't be lacking for tying in the theme a bit at least.

Okay, as of my writing this I still haven't decided if I want to genuinely request this or if I just want to throw the suggestion out there as a possible Treat, BUT:
Truly Devious: When we finished reading the original trilogy, my teenager had just one question: "But what about the moose?" WHERE ARE THE MOOSE? I started to attempt to answer this question in fanfic myself and got as far as the opening paragraph:
"The moose of the Green Mountains knew to avoid the place they called the Unstable Slope, or “oooOOOOOOoooo” in their native tongue. Ninety generations had passed since the first BoomQuakes broke the mountain, and still young moose were warned away, despite tales of a mythical lake that appeared suddenly there for several years, only to just as suddenly dry up again." So consider that a prompt! I'd be happy with any story of Stevie and friends solving a mystery, but if they're solving the mystery of where the moose went, that's even better!

PS: If the person who nominated Sal and Gabi last year is out there reading this, you have sparked a need in my soul. Why is there not Sal and Gabi fic? I need more Sal (and Gabi) in my life! I can't possibly pull off Sal's voice though so I'm dependent upon people more fluent in Cuban-American Spanglish than me!

I've been seeing references to the Yuletide Fic Exchange for many years longer than I've even been interested in fanfic, but I didn't really understand what was up with it until I saw a Tumblr post outright defining it the other month. Wait, it's a fic exchange focused on "rare and obscure fandoms"? Like 278-works-posted-on-AO3 rare? Only 57 of which even feature my favorite character(s)? And I've written 19 of those? I can request a Loudermilk story to read that I don't have to write MYSELF first?!

So first of all, of course that's what I'm requesting first, a Legion fic starring the Loudermilk Twins, since that was my nomination (and being that my four nominated characters are the only characters on the Tag List, and none of those are supposedly-main-character David, I'm guessing I'm the only one TO have nominated Legion!) I'm going to guess also that the chances of someone matching me to WRITE such a fic are also going to be slim. But don't be discouraged! Look, I've already even written a guide to writing the Loudermilk Twins to help you! (This was actually written just so I could blabber on the subject, not specifically to help you-- I don't want you to get the impression I'm obsessively controlling about what you write or anything!)

I would love to have a story exploring Cary and Kerry's life pre-show, especially their pre-show life at Summerland, which I haven't written ALL that much about myself yet. I didn't CLICK Oliver and Melanie's names because they're optional, but I definitely WOULD like to see their friendships/partnerships with them in there, too. As I said on the form, "Stories about the early years or development of Summerland, psychic shenanigans with Oliver, what their day to day lives are like or special occasions at Summerland..." there's like 40-some years you can work with there (minus 21 if you include Oliver)! I said "DNW: romanced-focused storylines," but emphasis on the "focused": Oliver and Melanie being Together in the background is certainly accepted. In fact, I always thought that their wedding, with Cary and Kerry in the "Best"s roles, would be a fun setting to explore!

Note on DNWs: "Smut" is the one across the board, so I've included it as my DNW even for stories that are not likely to tempt smut writing in the first place. I've also included "angst/hurt-no-comfort" as a DNW on the Legion one, since Legion storylines do have a lot of potential to be sad, but in this case, I want happy!

But, like I said, I know it's unlikely that anyone else has picked that to write about.

Luckily, I spotted Sal and Gabi Break the Universe in the Tag Set. Mijos, I freaked. My favorite middle-grade novel of the past decade! One I had even somewhat randomly shouted out to in the "Guide to Writing the Loudermilk Twins" I already linked to above! It hadn't even occurred to me that someone might have written Sal and Gabi fic! That I could get a taste of Sal's deliciously enthusiastic storytelling and absurd multiverse-jumping plotlines somewhere else now that I even took the trouble to track down Carlos Hernandez's book of grownup short stories through interlibrary loan just because I heard grown-up Sal was in one (GABI, as it turns out, is in SEVERAL, though she's spelling her name "Gabby" in the future, apparently. Or, in that universe. You know how it goes)!

So if you can give me some Sal and Gabi crack (I mean, though, what's "crack" in other fandoms is basically canonical for Sal and Gabi), I will squeal just as loudly as I would have to read a Loudermilk-fic-I-didn't-write-myself!

I do have a "romance" DNW on them as well. I mean, Sal IS canonically ace and as a fellow aspec I respect that.

Going through the Tag Set alphabetically, though, the first one I hit that set off the "YES GIMME!" vibes was All the Wrong Questions, which I need to read again because I enjoyed it, *gasp*, even more than Series of Unfortunate Events, and I feel like it could spawn such awesome side fic if I'd read it enough to write it myself. Now I ASSUME you are not Non-Plutonian-Druid offering to write a prose exploration of your brilliant AtWQ/Umbrella Academy mash-up, so barring that, I'll take whatever absurd eldritch noir you can give me! (If you ARE in fact Pluto hoping for an excuse to do this very thing? I am not going to stop you). No DNWs here beyond the blanket "no smut"-- I'm open to romance and angst and whatever, because this is noir, pile it on! With the humorous touch, of course.

Speaking of humorous noir, I debated whether or not to add anything else to my requests lists, because I didn't want to distract from my chances at the ones I REALLY WANT that other people aren't likely to ask for, and though I had a list of about 15 I went "I want to read that!" over, most of them I thought I'd be happy just reading someone else's gift-- it wasn't MINE, you know? The one I was most on the fence about though was Fargo the TV Show. I mean, Fargo was how I discovered Legion, after all! In the end I left it off my requests, but I'll drop it here as a backup or if someone wants to write a bonus something or something. I'd love a Mr. Wrench and Mr. Numbers off on a job having their side conversations in sign; or Rabbi and Mike/Satchel Milligan having some happier foster-father/son bonding time than they really got a chance to in canon.

So, a general overview? Hi, I'm a children's librarian who likes absurd gen fic, how are you?

EDIT: Having read some other letters, should I make it more explicit that I love the idea of treats? YES, PLEASE! If that wasn't obvious by my adding a bonus request in the first place. And other people had a lot more specific DNWs but I think most of them would fall under "NO SMUT" for me so I think that's fine. And yes, I do love crossovers and AUs and crack, as long as you're true to the root of who the characters ARE.
