Here's a survey, horray! It's been awhile since I've had a survey to post, I think:
10 years ago, it was 1996. Take this survey, post the results, and see how many things have changed since then.
1) How old were you?
THEN: 18
NOW: 28. Can you add ten?
2) Where did you go to school?
THEN: Derry Area HS (will leave Jenny's comment: "sounds hick, and really is hick")
NOW: Kids Unlimited Child Development Center!
3) Where did you work?
THEN: I did absolutely nothing that involved making any income that year. Instead I went on trips to Mexico, New York City, Michigan (okay, Michigan isn't a particulary excitingly expensive destination...) and college that sucked up my parents' money.
NOW: see #2
4) Where did you live?
THEN: New Alexandria, PA
NOW: Canonsburg, PA
5) How was your hairstyle?
THEN: freakin' long dark blonde and wavy because the days I didn't have it down I had it braided
NOW: THE EXACT SAME WAY. Except I might have had bangs then, I don't remember
6) Did you wear braces?
THEN: Not ten years ago
NOW: No
7) Did you wear contacts?
THEN: Yes
NOW: Haven't in awhile
8) Did you wear glasses?
THEN: Sometimes
NOW: Yes
9) Who was your best friend?
THEN: Angie. I think at this point it was definitely Angie even more than Molly, though Molly still was technically, too.
NOW: Jason.
10) Which of your pets were still alive?
THEN: none
NOW: still none, although now my parents have a dog
11) Who was your boyfriend/girlfriend?
THEN: *snort*
NOW: Jason, but don't tell my husband...
12) Who was your celebrity crush?
THEN: Paul McCartney
NOW: hmm... still nursing the Dick Winters thing from when I was watching and reading Band of Brothers over and over last month. Does he count as a celebrity? And the fact that "60 years ago" should be added for clarification? If not, Ewan McGregor.
13) Who was your regular-person crush?
THEN: Sean. But that was hardly a "regular-person," I mean, he was really Ian Schafer, secret agent extraordinaire and Billy 'Arrison's best friend! Hey, Billy's birthday is coming up soon. That must mean I've been on this lj thing for a year already. Wow.
NOW: Jason, but don't tell my boyfriend...
14) How many piercing did you have?
THEN: none
NOW: none
15) How many tattoos did you have?
THEN: none
NOW: none
16) What was your favorite band/singer?
THEN: the Beatles
NOW: huh. I'm so stuck ten years ago aren't I. My second favorite is Pink Floyd, who I didn't like at ALL ten years ago.
17) Had you smoked cigarettes?
THEN: no
NOW: no. I'm still an anti-cancer nazi and I doubt I'll get any less so.
18) Had you gotten drunk?
THEN: no
NOW: no. Mildly tipsy a few times. I get sleepy before I get drunk.
19) Had you DRIVEN?
THEN: Well... around my church parking lot? And I was taking the driving portion of driver's ed that summer.
NOW: Yes. Far too much. Though much less now!
20) If so which car?
THEN: the green minivan
NOW: Jason's old Corolla
21) Looking back, are you where you thought you would be in 2006?
No, but I'm not entirely sure where I thought I'd be, either.
That's asking me all sorts of high-school nostalgia, but I've been painfully nostalgic for COLLEGE today. I had this dream last night that I was supposedly visiting Whitmyre (it was WAY BIGGER than Whitmyre) for a reunion of sorts-- more like, everyone was BACK at college; and Angie and Jen had this huge open corner party room; and I went looking for one of my old rooms only to find it had been replaced by a fancy restaurant-- and I was looking for some of the people in my class that I haven't seen in years, and said, "I miss them so much it hurts," and it did, in the dream. And then today I'd occasionally think of something college related and it would flash back, and I WOULD miss it so much it hurt, for a moment. It was very weird. I also dreamed that George and Ringo married each other and somehow also had a baby together and this miracle of science was not exciting people nearly as much as the fact that they were wandering America together as nomadic hippies, which is possibly weirder than being nostalgic for college, but just slightly.
So, it's been a week, but only three of you have attempted the Lyrics game this time, even with the new scoring system. Then it occurred to me: wait, you know who on my friends list knows a lot of these songs? TRACIE! I swear I've heard her do a few of these at karioke. And she's extremely preoccupied doing something I'm very jealous of right now for awhile, so can't blame HER for not trying yet(though if you read back this far and want to see how well you do, Tracie, by all means give it a try...)
Well, congratulations to
magnolia___,
tigger18325, and
vovat for taking a chance and trying my game! Horray! You are all therefore winners!
But technically
vovat wins for earning 21 points-- seven titles and artists.
The answers are
1. “Electric word, life—it means forever and that’s a mighty long time” --"Let's Go Crazy," Prince
2.“Now that you’ve found another key, what are you going to play?” --"Baby You're a Rich Man," the Beatles. Nathan got it.
3.“I have my ship, and all her flags are a-flyin’. She is all that I have left, and music is her name.” --"Southern Cross," Crosby Stills and Nash. Hard title-- you might know the song without knowing what it's called.
4. “If you wanna hang out, you’ve got to take a round…” -- "Cocaine," Eric Clapton. what is wrong with you people, not knowing your classic drug songs?
5. “It was written that I would love you from the moment I opened my eyes” -- "Calico Skies," Paul McCartney. Absolutely sweet, beautiful little song off Flaming Pie, and possibly my favorite solo number by him.
6. “Newspaper taxis appear on the shore, waiting to take you away” -- "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," the Beatles. Both Maggie and Nathan got this one. You should have, too.
7. “But you know, the darkest hour is always, always just before the dawn” --"Long Time Gone," Crosby Stills and Nash
8. “The ocean is a desert with its life underground and a perfect disguise above” --"A Horse With No Name," America. Leah got this one.
9. “When evening falls so hard, I will comfort you” --"Bridge Over Troubled Water," Simon and Garfunkel. Nathan got it. LIZ! Really! Did you read this one?
10. “Through the years as the fire starts to mellow, burning lines in the book of our lives” --"Longer," Dan Fogelberg. So begins the cheesy 80s block of this game.
11. “All alone I have cried silent tears full of pride, in a world made of steel, made of stone” --"Flashdance...What a Feeling," Irene Cara
12. “Whatever we deny or embrace, for worse or for better” --"We Belong," Pat Benatar
13.“I’ll be just around the corner if you got a minute to spare. I’ll be waiting for you, if you ever want to be there” --"Hold Me," Fleetwood Mac. So concludes the cheesy 80s block.
14. “I’ve got no time for lovin’ ‘cause my time is all used up; I just sit around creatin’ all that groovy kind of love” --"I'm a Man." This cover is by Chicago, who at long last are represented by something that is NOT a cheesy 80s ballad. The song was made famous by the Spencer Davis Group (lead singer: Steve Winwood, age 16), and their lyric actually ends with "stuff" rather than "love," incidentally.
15. “Nothing you can make that can’t be made” --"ALL YOU FRIGGIN' NEED IS LOVE," the Beatles. Thank you Maggie and Nathan for paying attention and getting this.
16. “It’s been a long time since the book of love; I can’t count the tears of a life with no love” --"Rock and Roll," Led Zeppelin. This is the song in the Cadillac commercials.
17. “I was always reaching; you were just a girl I knew. I took for granted the friend I have in you” --"The Search is Over," Survivor. This is the one I wouldn't have gotten my artist point for if I was playing. I was like, "hmm, REO Speedwagon?"
18. “Most of the cats that you meet on the street speak of true love; most of the time they’re sitting and crying at home.” --"Truckin'," the Grateful Dead. Luckily, with encouragement, Maggie got this one.
19. “But when you stop and look around you, there is nothing that we need, in a world of persecution that is burning in its greed” --"Question," the Moody Blues.
20. “Midnight on the water—I saw the ocean’s daughter.” --"Can't Get It Out of My Head," ELO
21. “Time every journey to bump into you accidentally” --"The Dark of the Matinee," Franz Ferdinand. Their album is so worth it if only for this song.
22. “Said, ‘It’s 3 AM, there’s too much noise, don’t you people ever want to go to bed?’” --"Get Off of My Cloud," the Rolling Stones. *sigh* Maggie...
23. “The government bugged the men’s room in the local disco lounge” --and"All She Wants to Do is Dance," Don Henley. I love the lyrics to this song, they just make such PICTURES...
24. “Your love is like a tidal wave spinnin’ over my head” --"Heartbreaker," Pat Benatar yet again. Like I said, that's funny, considering I only have two songs by her ON my computer. And Pink Floyd never appeared in this game once!
25. “I have held the hand of the devil: it was warm in the night; I was cold as a stone” --"I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For," U2
26. “You’re asking me will my love grow?” --"Something," the Beatles. Maggie and Nathan got it. Do you realize how obvious this one would be if I'd written ANY OTHER lyrics?
27. “Doesn’t have a point of view, knows not where he’s going to” --"Nowhere Man," the Beatles, also gotten by Maggie and Nathan, my fellow Beatles appreciators.
28. “Here come Johnny, singing oldies, goldies, be bop-a-lua, baby, what I say” --"Walk of Life," Dire Straits. I was really impressed with Nathan for getting this one. One time alone on a train in Europe this Italian guy in my compartment started whistling this and it made me feel less lonely.
29. “A thousand pictures can be drawn from one word; only who is the artist? We gotta agree. A thousand miles can mean so many ways, just to know who is driving what a help it would be.” --"I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)," the Moody Blues. Possibly my favorite lyric by them, which was why I had to write the whole verse like that.
30. “We’ll hold hands and then we’ll watch the sun rise from the bottom of the sea” --"Are You Experienced?" the Jimi Hendrix Experience
Eleven 80s songs. Beats out ten 60s songs. Whoaness.
I'll have to play it again some time. Maybe I'll pick and choose just a bunch of songs that people ought to get. Then again, you never do know....
I've finished my first week at the new job. Wow, only a week, and I already feel like I've known these kids much longer than that! I'm still not quite in the swing of things yet, but I'm not sure how much of that is just me being sick. I miss stupid little things about the Museum-- things I liked to do or say or planned to do.... But I get along with the head teacher, the one I'll be working with the most, quite well, and I'll be getting to plan all the storytimes this summer! I told "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" today and mentioned how it was fun to act out, and whatdya know, when we're out on the playground later that day, what do I hear a bunch of the boys doing? Rock. Anyway. I really do like TAKING CARE of children. It makes me even more inclined to want some of my own. Heh, STILL have to wait 'til July....
Feeling better, a bit. Not getting those weird chills anymore, and haven't needed NyQuil the past two nights... it's funny, I didn't have any weird dreams while I was taking NyQuil this time around, but the two nights after I STOP I've been having really whacked ones. The one I had the night before last was really cooly narrative. I thought of posting it, but didn't. Anyway, Jason also seems to not have been hit quite as hard as me-- he hasn't had to take off work once, and seems to be improving. He also fixed our oven today. The heating element blew up the other day. Luckily, it was JUST the heating element and we didn't have to buy a new oven entirely. He replaced the heating element today. Good job, boy.

Date: 2006-05-22 06:44 am (UTC)From:I've had dreams about going back to Whitmyre a bunch of times. Sometimes it'll have a lot more floors than it actually does, or its own large library (I think it actually DOES have some public books now, but probably no more than a shelf or so), or something like that. It's weird.
