OKAY!

So today LINDSAY BARRETT GEORGE came to the Museum. She's the one who wrote the book that I wrote the manual about, so I've been looking forward, though rather nervously, to this day for quite awhile. Of COURSE we were understaffed, so I didn't get to HANG OUT with her or anything (which I actually dreamed about the other night-- I mean I dreamed I couldn't get scheduled to be with her and couldn't figure out how to get there, and then Lois turned into Mrs. Forte and asked me to go to the grocery to buy supplies for building dinosaurs, and then I was promising Greg that when I was Old and Widowed I would come back to the Museum and marry him-- which would be more amusing if I hadn't dreamed LAST night that I was YOUNG and widowed, which is not a nice dream, and meant that Jason couldn't get back to sleep this morning because I wouldn't let go of him. Anyway. Whitney says she's going to miss my dreams. I'm going to miss sharing them with Whitney, as she's so very appreciative), so I like ran to the studio early after I ate lunch, where Lindsay Barrett George was already quite busily at work making Mouse paintings-- and Ears --with kids. Actually, when I walked in she was putting a pair of Mouse Ears on Trish, which was adorable.

But I went up and was about to introduce myself, like, "Hi, I'm Amy Weir, I wrote the Trunk Manu--"

"Oh do you have any more aprons?" she asked me upon seeing me. "How about brown paint? Can you take these over to Andrea?"

So, rather befuddled and slightly embarrassed, I jumped to work, helping her find the things she was looking for, and never actually introduced myself properly by the time I had to run across the room to paper.

Luckily we were slow enough that I could wander away from paper for awhile, and Lois caught me and said "Have you met Lindsay yet?"

and I said, "Well, she seems very BUSY..."

But when LOIS introduced me, it was like LBG actually SAW me for the first time. "Oh, you have such HAIR!" she even said. I SWEAR, I AM invisible! It's seriously not that I don't TRY to be assertive, I'm like PHYSICALLY UNABLE to be assertive! I want to become a celebrity so that I'll ENJOY when people are completely unaware of my existance; the only celebrity Immune to Paparazzi!

Anyway, so I got her to sign my Manual on the Author Info page and Lois also gave me a copy of the book to have signed for myself too. LBG wrote in it something about "Thanks for making it fun!" Gee, that's swell! I mean, assuming that isn't just some random line she writes to everyone though I don't know why, that means she really thinks all the activities I wrote for her book were cool! And also I got my picture taken with her. And these great Mouse-in-a-Watering-Can puppets. And I was also wearing Mouse Ears most of the rest of the day.

Then at Story Time I figured well I HAD to read "Inside Mouse Outside Mouse" (I read the Inside Mouse part and then had the kids tell the Outside Mouse part), then I said, "Let's go upstairs and meet the author!" and the kids all thought that was cool. But she was so cool when I brought the kids over to her and said, "I've brought you a bunch of new fans!" and told her how we'd just read the book.

"Really?!" She turned to one little girl. "Which mouse was your favorite?" And then, "HERE'S a question: which mouse is the boy mouse and which mouse is the girl mouse?" (that's something that you really can't tell from the book).

"I think the brown mouse is the girl," said the girl, and LBG said, "And do you know what her name is? Isabella! And the Inside Mouse is Charlie!" It was really cute, and I think really special for those kids too. It kept me so bubbly that I even felt happy in Waterplay, which was where I went next. That lasted all of ten minutes. Then I became bored again and pulled out the chapter of Ian that I had stuck in my pocket for editing. (Yeah, if you keep track of these things, I got so far with rewriting the end of Emily's Book, then became frustrated with How Sucky My Endings Always Are, and decided to go back to editing Ian Schafer instead). Anyway.

S'all there is to say. I made strawberry jam last night. Maggie graduates tomorrow. LBG is going to be at the Museum again, but I'll be going to Johnstown with a whole herd of Maggie's groupies instead. Fun times. That will be definitely all, then.
