[Error: unknown template qotd] So... am I the only person who saw this on the home page and now can't get the Bee Gees out of her head?

...possibly.

EDIT: Okay, I admit, when I just look at the TITLE I get frickin' Nazareth in my head, but nobody brought THAT up, either.

I'm not actually going to answer this question. It's entirely not a subject my brain is at all inclining toward lately. Even though I work with YA literature, and that's a staple theme of YA literature. My favorite staple theme of YA literature right now is Being Yourself and Standing Up to Bullies. But anyhoo.

Mostly I was just commenting on the Bee Gees thing.

Say, did you all (except for Emily today) totally miss that I wrote a whole post about Jim Henson last weekend? DUDES! JIM HENSON! Where ARE you people?! Just because you don't write on LiveJournal YOURSELF anymore doesn't mean you can't pop by and say hi! I miss you.

I didn't leave a comment on the Jim Henson post because, well, while I love the Muppets, and have very fond memories of Sesame Street form my childhood ...

The Fraggles gave me horrific nightmares as a kid, and I still get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach whenever I see anything having to do with them to this day.

And it seemed vaguely disrespectful to mention that in a post celebrating their creator's birthday!

As it happens, I was terrified of Sesame Street as a child. My monster-under-the-bed (technically behind the bed) was this crazy-eyed Anything Muppet from my imagination whose goal in life was to jump out at you when you least expected it. I didn't get past my general terror of any sort of Muppet until I was a teenager-- pretty much just before I decided to do the research paper on Sesame Street, and THEN in the course of my research I became a fanatic. But yes, I am shockingly sympathetic to your plight!

Yes, I got both the Bee Gees and Nazareth stuck in my head, and you can only imagine what a jumble that is ...

That sounds scary, but as I have had jumbles like that in my head before myself, I believe you.

Re: your userpic, yesterday I was wearing a shirt that just said "BOOK!" really big across the front, and I was thinking it could subversively be read in several good ways so was all the more awesome!

Emily and I watched the new TV show "Terra Nova" for the first time this weekend, and there are characters on the show called Zoe, Wash, and Mal ... if a character named Book shows up, I'll know there are Firefly fans among the writers!

Hah, Zoe and Mal you can write off to coincidence, but throw in a Wash? Mighty suspic-ee-ous. Someone on Twitter the other day just posted a screenshot from a game that appeared to be written by Firefly fans, too-- references that, alone, could appear to be complete coincidences, but all at once...? It's like SECRET COOL-PEOPLE CODE.

David Fury is an executive producer on the show. I don't remember if he worked on Firefly, but he's a definite Joss Whedon connection.

Dudes, I'm starting to get jealous of your apparently huge stash of Firefly userpics. Always wanted a Kaylee one, myself. She's my girl. (First time we saw Firefly, my hubby(to-be-then) and I were blown away by how clearly it appeared to be an extra-good RPG session with our usual gaming group-- every character was the typical character played by someone we knew! And I always play Kaylees. With less libido, but otherwise. So I've always been particularly fond of her, for representing.)

I think I've pretty much run through all my Firefly userpics! I like Kaylee -- including her libido, which shows that a nice girl can still want a healthy sex life! Did you catch the actress recently on Supernatural? She seems to be on a roll to appear in as many SF shows as Mark Shepherd ...

No-- my TV watching is very rare lately (unless you count PBS kids shows. Or PBS everything-- I'm currently working through Downton Abbey on DVD, which is really how I've watched most TV lately)-- but I did hear about it, because I follow her on Twitter: @JewelStaite (http://twitter.com/#!/JewelStaite) SHE IS SO AWESOME. I have been seriously thrilled with how funny and articulate she is in real life. Or, on the Internet anyway. And she writes a blog all about FOOD! If you do Twitter, definitely follow. If you don't, stalk her blog!

I already to follow her on Twitter -- but I've been so crazy busy that I don't have time to get over there very often.
