OH SQUEE! Shaun Tan won an Oscar. I'm so totally out of the loop on movies lately, so never thought to watch the Oscars myself-- although it turns out I've also seen the Best Full-Length Animated Film Or Whatever, as we got it for Christmas even though we never got to see it in the theater as we'd originally intended to early last year (so now probably Cars II will be Sam's first movie theater outing, although I am not looking forward to that one nearly as much); and I really do want to see the Best Picture winner because George VI has been totally one of my heroes ever since I did a short research project on his daughter in 11th grade and got distracted learning about HIM. BUT, I totally was not expecting to SQUEAL WITH EXCITEMENT when I clicked over to idly read the winners list when I got online, but there it is! One of my favorite illustrators has won Best Animated Short! And what's cool is, I just clicked on that link I posted above, and I'm getting a "BANDWIDTH EXCEEDED" notice, which totally means it's being swamped by non-children's-literature-types who had never heard of him before last night and now want to find out more! You know it! I am so happy that his work is reaching a broader audience!
