So, about Joyce's wedding
Aug. 7th, 2005 11:46 amThis wedding was in the McCauleys' yard, which was very cool-- I was amazed by how well the yard converted into something so appropriate. Jason had never been to the McCauleys', so I had to take him around on a grand tour telling him old stories, and for some reason the most interesting things I could come up with were making tator tots one New Years and the Memorial Day Melanie and I got lost in the woods (well, technically we weren't LOST, we knew exactly where we WERE, we were just deep in the middle of a briar patch and couldn't figure out how to get back OUT). Not that they were really the only things I could think of, but they were the things I kept MENTIONING for some reason.
The ceremony itself was on the back (front) porch, which had been seriously renovated since I'd seen it last (it used to be the BORING side of the house). It was fairly brief and amusing but still hot enough that Eric Baumann fainted in the middle of it. Also, Joyce was wearing a wedding gown her grandmother had made I think for her mother, which was very pretty by the way.
Then dinner was fun because we were sitting with Wendy and Wade. I'd never actually gotten to sit and talk to Wade before and that was good because he's a very nice guy and not at all as Boring-Jon-ish as he seems on first impression being so quiet. Jason talked a lot of course, but it was a spirited conversation on the whole... the nice thing about Jason and being a quiet person with him is that he's NOT the sort of loud outgoing person who makes a shy person feel SHYER, which is sort of a surprising thing and not that common-- even though he talks a lot, he lets you get a word or two in as well and when he does you can tell he's really listening too, so you FEEL like talking, and if being a quiet person you DON'T feel like talking he of course is fine to fill up the silences with amusing banter. So Wendy spent most of the time laughing and all three of us joined in enough and Jason mostly spent his time thinking of "important" wedding advice to give them (much of which was important, like "don't forget the marriage license").
Anyway, after dinner there really wasn't much dancing because they'd gotten this REALLY HORRIBLE deejay because he was cheap (the thing is, they KNEW he was horrible ahead of time, but got him anyway because they figured it really wasn't that important in that setting--everyone would have fun no matter what), so everyone just hung out and talked and I took Jason on a tour and everything. And I won the centerpiece in the middle of our table... actually this isn't true, Danny won it, but we figured he wouldn't actually WANT it, so everyone decided that I won it instead. Danny spent the entire time playing with the dogs. This must be Daisy's influence, and it's a good one, because it means he did not spend the entire time watching TV. Anyway, that's the story of all that.
I've now been to two weddings since my own, and there's something really neat about listening to the ceremony now... it's like you're renewing your vows as you hear them spoken... you can tell because a lot of hand-squeezing goes on during it... it's a good good thing.
I was going to say something entirely unrelated, but now I forget it of course.
