My incredibly advanced 19-day-old said his first word today, "uh-oh." No seriously, he was lying there with the hiccups-- which for some reason don't bother him in the slightest-- cooing and saying what definitely sounded like "uh-oh" after each one, in the same tone of voice I always say "uh-oh" which I always say after he hiccups or burps or such thing-- seriously, he made the connection. ;) Actually he said his first word when he was just a couple hours old and trying to learn to nurse-- crying "wah! wah!" (it cracks me up that he actually does say "wah!" when he cries-- it so sounds like some little kid pretending to be a baby instead of an actual baby) and trying to fit his mouth around me, so it came out sounding exactly like "Mom! Mom!" which is very fitting. Anyway, in REAL developmental milestones we will sit and make faces at each other and he will stick his tongue out at me if I stick mine out at him. He can still be incredibly dumb about nursing though, though I've been able to get him on without a nipple shield at least once a day for the past couple days so perhaps the learning curve is catching up slowly.
He's asleep now. I also probably should have slept, but I didn't expect him to sleep as long as he has just now and I'd gotten on here and started doing stuff, so instead I did:
A survey I vaguely remember having taken before
1. What bill do you hate paying the most? Well... I don't know. I would agree with Megan's Student Loan response for the same reasons (large and for something that is not being used), except that we put ours into deferment until we get another source of income!
2. Where was the last place you had a romantic dinner? Uh... that depends on your definition of romantic? Seriously, I can't even remember when was the last time we went out to eat just to go out.
3. Last time you puked from drinking? Um, drinking what?
4. When is the last time you got drunk and danced on a bar? A past life
5. Name of your first grade teacher? Mrs. Markewitz. This morning I was looking at some school thing of my brother's and noticed that he has a teacher named Mrs. Markewitz NOW, as a senior in high school, and it really threw me off! But now I remember that there WERE two Mrs. Markewitzes in our school district and one of them DID teach high school... but I never had her.
6. What do you really want to be doing right now? Eating ice cream. We might have some. Maybe I should go see.
7. What did you want to be when you were growing up? An author. I hope eventually the baby brain goes away enough for me to pursue that dream again.
8. How many colleges did you attend? Two
9. Why did you choose the shirt that you have on right now? It's short-sleeve (because I'm hot), button-down (because that's easier to manage than a large pullover shirt with a kid who still can be REALLY DUMB about latching), and still fits across my chest (which is several inches and two cup sizes larger than it was last year at this time).
10. GAS PRICES? SENTENCE FRAGMENT?
11. If you could move anywhere and take someone with you? I better be allowed two someones at this point in my life. By the way, that question was also a sentence fragment.
12. First thought when the alarm went off this morning? It didn't, because I was at my parents' house. I think my sister's phone rang this morning though. And my thought was "Is sammy awake yet? I know he must be awake. I don't hear him yet. But probably he's been crying for hours and I slept through it again. I'm too tired to get up. But if he wants fed I have to get up. Does he want fed? I can't hear him. But it must be time by now..." This went on for awhile. It turned out he just WAS sleeping for that long.
13. Last thought before going to sleep last night? Which time? Well, it was probably something like, "I hope I actually get to fall asleep before I have to get up again."
14. Favorite style of underwear? ones that don't ride up
15. Favorite style of underwear for the opposite sex? Boxers
16. What errand/chore do you despise? sorting white socks
17. If you didn't have to work, would you volunteer? Hey, my current have-to-work-ness IS a volunteer position!
18. Get up early or sleep in? I have no concept of one-bedtime, one-rise-time anymore! Normally I like to get up with the sun, however early or late that is, but lately I just like to sleep whenever I can.
19. What is your favorite cartoon character? hmmm... the Brain?
20. Favorite nonsexual thing to do at night with a girl/guy? Read in bed. (This is Megan's answer. I'm keeping it)
21. Have you found real love yet? I find more and more real love all the time.
22. When did you first start feeling old? MAybe when I look in my college's newsletters and realize that there are alumni who were still in high school when I graduated college. Grad school even.
23. Favorite 80's movie? Back to the Future
24. Your favorite lunch meat? Sandwich pepperoni
25. What do you get every time you go into Sam's Club? Probably paper products. It's been awhile since I went to sam's club though.
26. Beach or lake? I think beach. It also depends who's there.
27. Do you think marriage is an outdated ritual? No. Commitment takes a relationship to a brand new level.
28. How many people do you stalk on livejournal? Nobody I don't think. I used to stalk Angie on MySpace but then she got rid of her account.
29. Favorite guilty pleasure? livejournal surveys. seriously, I ought to be napping or something right now.
30. Favorite movie you wouldn't want anyone to find out about? If you really had such a movie, why would you mention it? I can't even think of a movie that MIGHT answer this question, because even movies other people might list, I'd be inclined to say, "no, really, try it, it's cool!"
31. What's your drink? Skim milk. Which (aside to Emily) luckily seems to have no effect on Sammy's digestion, so I guess I can keep drinking it.
32. Cowboys or Indians? The NCAA forced the Indians to change their name, so I guess they lose.
33. Cops or Robbers? Cops.
34. Who from high school would you like to run into? I actually made a list last year sometime when I was thinking about the class reunion. Actually I think the list was of people NOT in my class that I wanted to see again. No, I made a separate one of the people in my class too. Anyway, there's a bunch, oddly enough.
35. What radio station is your car radio tuned to right now? The last song was "Dance to the Music" (Sly and the Family Stone), so I'm guessing it was 3WS, but I suppose it might have been Bob FM, too.
36. Norm or Cliff? From Cheers? I never watched it much, but I will go with Norm because he reminds me of the Survey episode of Animaniacs, which I still occasionally quote randomly.
37. The Cosby Show or the Simpsons? Simpsons.
38. Worst relationship mistake that you wish you could take back? I wouldn't take back anything in romantic relationships because I'm happy where I am today, and who knows how anything might have changed? But I have done stupid things in my friendship relationships that, though they are healed now, it still would have been better if I'd never been so stupid....
39. Do you like the person who sits directly across from you at work? Who, Sammy?
40. If you could get away with it, who would you kill? Not a matter of getting away with it, I just wouldn't kill them. Maybe if it is someone in the process of killing or trying to kill other people, but hopefully I could leave that to my husband who arms himself precisely for that purpose.
41. What famous person(s) would you like to party with? The Beatles.
42. What famous person would you like to sleep with? Really have no desire to sleep with a famous person. Actually, my hormones and anatomy being in the state they are at the moment, I only barely have the desire to do anything falling under the implied definition of "sleep with" with my husband. Actually sleep with, though, is another story.
43. Have you ever had to use a fire extinguisher for its intended purpose? No.
44. Last book you read for real? What does read-for-real MEAN? Does "The Post-Partum Handbook" not count, then, because it wasn't like READING A BOOK FOR FUN, like "the..." I forget the name of the book I'm (attempting to be) reading now, but it's by Eva Ibbotson and takes place partially in Vienna which just rocks.
45. Do you have a teddy bear? There's a bag in Sammy's closet that has a couple of teddy bears technically belonging to me in it. Sammy has about five teddy bears.
46. Strangest place you have ever brushed your teeth? In the creek at Molly's family cabin, and the other Molly looked at the toothpaste floating downstream and said "Ooo, look at the beauty," and this was very amusing which is why I remember it eleven years later even though it was technically not that funny. Incidentally, the other Molly, whose last name is Sobota if you happen to know someone of that full name and would like to pass the message on to her, was one of the people on the list-of-people-from-high-school-I'd-like-to-run-into. Not that I'd mind running into the original Molly either, except I'm in TOUCH with her and therefore know how unlikely it would be to run INTO her.
47. Somewhere in California you've never been and would like to go? I've never been anywhere in California, but the answer would be The redwood forests.
48. Do you go to church? Yes
49. At this point in your life would you rather start a new career or a new relationship? Career... although I'd like it to hold off a few more months.
50. Just how old are you? 29 and a montherso.
A survey for married people, from Rita, who has a lot of the same answers as me

5. Where did you propose or were proposed to? My family's annual Christmas Eve party!
6. Have you ever been married before your current marriage? Nope.
7. Who "wears the pants" in the house? Rita wrote: "Depends on the situation, mostly I let him think he does, though!" This is usually my answer, but right now I think it's actually "Sammy."
8. Who is the "bread-winner"? Jason.
9. Do you have any children? As of two and a half weeks ago!
10. Do you own a home or rent a place? Own it in 30 years... ( :D --Also Rita's answer. If we ever get to that point!)
11. How many times a week do just the two of you go out? Huh?
12. Do you have separate checking accounts? Well, we have one that we call mine and one we call his, except that both our names are on both and we therefore have access to both. Though lately "his" is the only one that gets any income, so it's really the only one we use!
13. What side of the bed do you sleep on? Left (from in it).
14. Who does the laundry? the past two weeks, my mom. Normally it's me though.
15.Who cooks? Normally it depends on what is being cooked, but lately it's Jason. Although in many cases he is cooking something I prepared ahead of time and froze.
16. Who cleans? lately, nobody. Normally, me in small amounts regularly, and Jason in hugely thorough amounts only if his mom is coming over.
17. Do you share a vehicle or each have your own? We've got two, but tend to use the one called "mine," with him driving, if we're going somewhere together.
18. Do you get along with your in-laws? Yes, except when his mom has an attack of insanity, which I believe happened again earlier today over the subject of when Sammy's baptism is.
19. Do you argue with your spouse? Yes, although usually "okay sure" and then just doing what you were going to do anyway is more productive.
20. Are you good at pampering? Diapering? That's the only sort I can think of at the moment.
21. What is your favorite physical feature of your spouse? On him, his smile, but I am stunned by how "his" eyes look in our son's face.
22. Name one thing you would change about your spouse? More adventurous with food. And with travel.
23. Name a movie that will always remind you of your spouse? The Mummy! The only movie where the romantic couple IS US!
24.Who did you copy and paste this from? Rita.
25.What is your wedding date? Dec. 27
