After your footnote about that old post being the one where our friendship began I HAD to go and re-read it, and the comments, and now I'm feeling all sentimental. Mutual Henry Tilney appreciation! Is there any finer foundation to begin a friendship?
When you talk in this post about one way of carrying on DWJ's legacy being writing fanfics of her stories, I found myself nodding in comprehension, because that's how I tend to feel about C.S. Lewis. From the "between the lines" fics that I used to write to the screenplays that I'm writing now (ha, "now" being a relative term, since The Silver Chair has been dormant for a couple of years and Prince Caspian has been stalled at the duel for a few months because I need to go back and redo the traveling-through-the-woods scenes because they are dragging the entire story down, and wow, no wonder screenwriters have a hard time adapting this story, it's a brilliant book and nearly impossible to translate to screen), I feel like he's peering over my shoulder and occasionally patting it while smiling in enjoyment at the fun I'm having in his world, even if I'm not getting everything exactly right.
And now I'm going to have to go read that Howl and Sophie fic!
