Oh, and I just read your reply to Emily above. You don't need to be taller than they are. I'm shorter than every single one of my high school students and I don't take a single bit of crap from them. But I'll tell you what I did when I found out I was to be teaching at the high school. I went out and bought a bunch of jackets so I looked official when I saw them. I wore the jackets every day for the first few weeks and was super strict. Now I've gotten to know them and they know what i expect. I don't wear jackets as much.
And since you don't know the real policy, I DEFINITELY don't think you can kick them out without your director's approval. This all should be your director's job. You should just point it out to her. or him.
