I'm writing, and have a question that I wonder if anyone else knows the answer to. Note: When I ask if anyone else knows the answer to something, that means you folks, so please read my entry today to give me ideas????? ;) So, you know those little tape recorders people take with them to, for example, interview a person or record a class lecture or something? Is there anything else people refer to them as besides "little tape recorders"? Especially when you consider that as tecnology goes on a lot of them might not even have tape anymore? The only other word I can think of is "dictophone" but I don't think anyone actually USES that in conversation. Any random ideas would be appreciated.

I've got this envelope here that I'm sending to Molly and I addressed it to "Mrs. Molly K. Stoltz" and this is amusing me very much every time I look at it. Not that this has anything to do with anything.

I love Madeleine L'Engle. I just randomly pulled "The Rock that is Higher" off the shelf and got lost in it for awhile. I really recommend her adult nonfiction, not very many people know it and it's MARVELOUS. Like her fiction, it also makes you think, and makes you FEEL, and makes you see the universe in new and marvelous ways, while at the same time reaffirming what you already truly Know deep inside. Those of you who are not religious should not be turned off by the fact that most of her nonfiction talks about religion, because she is not PREACHY... much more spiritual than preachy. Very beautiful.

So while I was reading this lovely stuff about Fully Being Who You Are in Peace with Others Being Fully Who They Are, I look down and this stupid ugly bug-- I forget what kind of bug it is, but it's big and ugly and often gets into houses (but is neither a cockroach or those creepy silverfish things, it's something else entirely, closer to a cricket with more noticable wings?) -- has crawled up onto my knee. My instinctive reaction is to squeal and throw the book at it. But then I stand there looking at this stupid ugly bug, that is now sitting rather calmly on the futon, twitching an antenna; and after reading all that I can't POSSIBLY bring myself to crush it, even though it IS a stupid ugly bug that I don't want in my house. In fact I get it into my head that the poor thing just wanted to come up and join me in relishing the Beauty the book was talking about. I laugh and tell it this, you know, just so it knows. Then I manage to catch it in a bag and release it outside, which is pretty chilly today so I don't REALLY know that it's much better off there... but at least it's got a chance, and I did not ruthlessly crush my partner-in-L'Engle-joy.

Anyway, after that I managed to pull myself away to go to the grocery store. I bought a pumpkin which I shall probably carve on Saturday while I am Not-at-the-HC-Reunion. Ah well, wish they'd got that together sooner. Angie says she would have gone if she hadn't JUST come back to PA the weekend before, so will definitely be up for it NEXT time they do such a thing, but hopefully by next time Angie will be back in PA full-time anyway.
