I'm with you on just about everything. I know I have a more stable financial situation at this point, but I agree with you in principle, and I remember how despairing I was when I was doing my internship and essentially making minimum wage.
You might already be familiar with this book, but I bought it recently (used) and thought you would appreciate it - The Complete Tightwad Gazette by Amy Dacyczyn. If you go look for it, be aware that there are three "Tightwad Gazettes," and then the "COMPLETE Tightwad Gazettes." It's HUGE - over 900 pages, and I'm not very far along (I'm thinking it will take me all year), but she makes some really good points about thrift as a lifestyle in her introduction, and asks people to really consider their lifestyle and the choices they make. And, from what I can tell (about 20 pages in), the rest of it is just really ways to save money - many of which you probably already do. But anyway, you should check it out if you haven't already.
Finally, I have a gift for Sam that I keep forgetting to send. I figure if I tell you, I'll be obligated to send it. :) It was something too cute to pass up at a craft show, and none of my other friends (actually, coworkers) with babies would appreciate it. :)
Hear, hear
