Backstory II: Major Players, continued...

When last we met, I introduced you to my immediate family that I grew up with, then I had to go to bed. So today I will continue with the immediate family I gained when I got married.

So we shall start with the only relative I ever chose: Jason! Jason is a thirteen-year-old boy trapped in a grown man's body. Luckily I am a twelve-year-old girl trapped in a grown woman's body, so it all works out. On the negative side, this means he still finds bodily function jokes extremely humorous; but on the plus side it means he has a great sense of fun and adventure, and is also into the same dorky teenage boy things as I am, you know, stuff like Star Wars and RPGs and whatnot. He is made of snips and snails and puppy dog tails as supposedly all little boys are; he is hyperactive and dyslexic; he hasn't an ounce of culture in him; but he is a huge romantic sap. This combination of traits is hard to imagine unless you've actually witnessed it personally (at least two of you have, I know. Example: "Everyone gets attacked by fifty orcs Amy's cute I like her!" This is pretty near to a typical exact quote). He is very noble actually, honorable even, though that doesn't necessarily mean always law-abiding. He is so honest that the word "tactless" would also apply. He has a great love for his friends and family and thinks about them often. He is a cross between Tom Sawyer, the Weasley twins, and Theodore Roosevelt. I hope that sums it up enough for you to get a BIT of a clear picture of him!

Jason is extremely tall next to his parents, because he scooped up some random tall genes from his grandfather. His parents are like mine in that they are also very intelligent and are from the same generation, they love their family and believe in family dinners, but that's about it. Well, as far as his MOM goes. I will save her for last because she is most complicated! My father in law on the other hand is curiously like my own father, in that they are both easy-going quiet-tempered men with good-but-dorky senses of humor, and have this habit of randomly dressing identically. My dad sometimes says that seeing Jason's dad is like watching how his life might have gone had he continued to date a girl very like Jason's mom instead of going with my mom!

Bethany is a year younger than me. She was the jock of the family-- a gymnast until very recently, such that she is also extremely tiny (she had to buy the smallest size bridesmaid dress and HAVE IT TAKEN IN), and that also made her one of the "cooler" crowd, though having a dork for an older brother tempered that enough that she also likes dorky things too. She's intelligent AND artistic, which is why she is majoring in architecture at the U of Florida. She and Maggie have a lot in common also. Which Jason says is why he likes picking on Maggie so much.

Now... where to begin with Mom Weir? The easiest way is to reference one of my favorite movies... so, Mrs. Miller in Almost Famous. Yes, she really exists. Okay, not quite so protective, and a bit cruder, but yes, she has been known to have phone conversations with people she's never actually met like that. She's got the whole intellectual college-professor everything-is-a-potential-lesson mother thing down. She also has a very odd unpredictable and hard-to-find sense of humor. She hasn't ACTUALLY made her family celebrate Christmas in September to avoid the commerialism, but I wouldn't put it past her, if she bothered to want to celebrate Christmas at all. She is quite possibly insane, and most people who have met her will probably agree. Luckily, she avoids being a horror-story mother-in-law by the sheer fact that she LOVES me! She's quite loveable in a just-have-to-know-how-to-deal-with-her way!

Anyway, so... that's the rest of my immediate family.

Any more introductions I do after this will be in the context of actual stories, I betcha. I will definitely put in some life stories in here at some point. Anything in particular you want to hear about/curious about/whatnot? I'll write stuff regardless anyway, probably, but it would be neat to get requests.

The puppy will like it too!

Yeah, sometimes I wonder if THAT'S why that's my favorite movie. But no, I guess it's just ONE of the reasons. But those phone conversations are definitely some of my favorite scenes, and as you can see by Megan's response below THEY REALLY DO HAPPEN.

LOVE the description of Jason. Although...Theodore Roosevelt? INteresting choice.

I've been subjected to Mom Weir's random phone conversations, usually in an attempt to find your husband over the holiday breaks.

Particular requests: The best day you ever had. The worst day you ever had. The Cat House - you've been teasing us with THAT story for a while. How about holidays? What'd you do the first few years of college?

Hmm, I'm not entirely sure how to explain the Teddy Roosevelt thing, except a lot of the stuff I read about him I just look at Jason and go HMMM! He's gruff but loveable. He's a dedicated outdoorsman-- though he SEEMS like a gun-crazed loony he has nothing but contempt for those who shoot things (especially living things) unwisely (hence the whole Teddy Bear thing, which is also rather Jason-like). He's a family man who loved playing around with the kids, which I definitely see Jason doing when he has kids. He's very opinionated, and very forceful in his opinions.

I can't think what the best day I ever had was. The worst day-- actually weekend-- I HAVE been debating writing about, and probably will touch on it (it's a lot harder to deal with than death is), because it is important to me. Ah, the Cat House... maybe I should get Jason to tell that one, since it's his story. And he'd be much more likely to curse. I may do some holidays... that's a thought. And the first few years of college should come out at some point, too.

It is nice to hear stories and learn more about a person I know and love!

Your family = my other family :)

Please, do keep writing!

p.s. I'm watching Anne of Green Gables.
