I'm just pleased you know the pencils I mean. Why won't they hold a point? Why do they make a point that doesn't have lead in it? Why do they keep breaking? How hard is it to make a pencil? (Very hard, I'll wager, if I tried it, but I'd assume pencil manufacturers have more experience than I do).
Yeah, ethics is a funny thing. Pretty much everything you do is a damned if you do damned if you don't situation. It's more like you can use ethics (waste and exploited workers!) to defend your own selfish opinion (no junk, more candy!), and ignore it when it doesn't line up with your immediate choices (CHOCOLATE I MUST HAVE CHOCOLATE I DON'T CARE WHERE IT CAME FROM!). It's like vegans being all HOW CAN YOU NOT BE VEGAN IF YOU KNOW HOW ANIMALS ARE TREATED and I'm like "yeah but I gotta eat," and personally while I don't think animals SHOULD be mistreated I'm much more disturbed by the mistreatment of HUMANS so what about THAT, and so on. Angie said something in the comments of one of my other posts recently that it seems most of these hot-headed arguments that never seem to be solved are just encouraged to brew by the Corporations who don't want you to notice that no matter what choice you make, the Corporations still make all the money off it either way.
People with severe allergies are yelling at me on Facebook, even though my main point wasn't "Keep the food!" but "Stop with the useless junk!" I don't think anybody will really be satisfied until everyone in the world sees everything exactly the way they themselves see it, so sometimes I just despair for humanity.
