Yeah, seriously. If she was having thoughts about him being a MONSTER I can see the need to add THOSE... otherwise what's the point?

I'm not sure whether it's better to build a plot around a romance or fit a romance into a plot. I like it when it fits in organically, whichever way. My biggest peeve with romances or romantic subplots is when the relationship isn't so much a RELATIONSHIP as a Passionate Idolization of a Beautiful Perfect Person, when we're TOLD instead of SHOWN that they Belong Together. I like to see actual interacting and disagreeing and personality quirks! And that, if this truly is a book of a different genre, the characters aren't mere love interests, but have an actual impact on the plot. Like I said, I never noticed before the subtle character building thing about Perfect Calvin coming along to protect her just when she needs to learn to be brave on her own, but that's a cool example...
