So in a random pile of D&D character sheets I found this Backstory that I'd written like a year ago or something. I mean, I've written this particular Backstory other places too, like on my Music website, and I planned to write it in here anyway, but I found this page and it matched with the format of the stories I was typing here and I really like the beginning of it so I'm going to type it here just as it is written on this random paper I found. In a pile of character sheets. I don't know what it was doing there, by the way.

Oh, the title comes from an article that was in TV Guide a year or two ago. It was like "The Top 20 Lifechanging TV Moments" or something really screwed up like that, and they interviewed all these celebrities to ask them What did they see on TV that changed their life? and most all of them had like really cheap grasping-for-something-since-I-don't-really-HAVE-an-answer answers like watching the Twin Towers collapse or the Challenger explode or something, you know, something like they didn't have an answer so were trying to think what could qualify as life-changing? And I thought, well, if they interviewed ME, I had an honest-to-god-truly-lifechanging-answer....

Life changing moments happen when you're not looking for them. You stumble upon them, WHAM!, and nothing is ever the same. They happen because it's a sweltering summer evening and you're bored.

I was fifteen, this particular evening, and as I lacked a social life I did indeed have nothing to do. My parents had plenty to do, more than enough-- they were working on the yard fanatically until after sunset, and there was STILL something on TV that they wanted to see at the same time. It was a live televised concert by Paul McCartney, but since they were still busy in the yard, they decided to tape it and watch it later. But I had nothing better to do, so I decided to sit in the living room and pre-zap the commercials for them.

ZAP.

A door opened in my consciousness.

Of course I'd HEARD most of the songs before. My dad had been playing the Beatles for years, but even if he hadn't, who in our society hasn't HEARD the Beatles? But I hadn't really LISTENED to them, not like I did that evening, hypnotized by the funny, handsome, charismatic old guy with amazing skill and (what I soon came to realize in the course of the evening) the most beautiful voice in the history of music.

And so I stepped through that newly-opened door, desperate to hear that wonderful sound again. I watched the concert again with my parents; then I unearthed their old Beatles LPs, and discovered the rest of the band; then, seeking them out on the radio, I discovered so many more amazing voices, incredible sounds. I really started to LISTEN... the oldies station, the classic rock station, the new rock station: I immersed myself in rock, and rock soaked into me.

Now, a fanatic, I ramble on about The Music. Blame Sir Paul.

In other news, I have been KLUTZIER THAN USUAL lately. Like to the point that it's wearing me out. Like yesterday I kept hurting myself so much towards the end of our cookout dealie that I got all cranky and tired and couldn't be sociable anymore. OR, I might just be dizzier than usual, which is making me both klutzy AND tired SEPARATELY. And I've just felt generally crappy, though not particularly in any way SICK. So go fig and all.
