Memes and Things

I think I've done this one before, but most of the answers change anyway.
1. Elaborate on your default icon.
I just put up a new one. Although I've actually had it a long while. It's from somebody on the [livejournal.com profile] discworld community, in reference to the concept of L-space, which is basically-- oh, let's see if I can explain this properly-- I forget the exact equation, but it's based off of knowledge=power, and the idea that a large concentration of books is also therefore a large concentration of power,
and all writing is connected to all other writing in the multiverse so theoretically you can travel through the multiverse using L-space... eh, it's not coming out clearly at all. But it's a secret only Librarians know!

2. What's your current relationship status?
Married with 2/3 of a child

3. Ever have a near-death experience?
No?

4. Name an obvious quality you have.
glasses

5. What's the name of the song that's stuck in your head right now?
None; though I'm listening to "Lowdown" by Chicago (a song few people know but more people ought to). The last song I remember randomly humming and singing although it wasn't on anything I was listening to was a spiritual that I think is called "Shall we Gather at the River"-- at least that's how the words go-- this morning

6. Name a celebrity you would marry.
Dav Pilkey maybe. Maybe if he was at least five years younger and didn't live in Seattle and we were both single. Possibly also Dhani Harrison. If either of those people count as celebrities. Do any of you know who either of them are? Well, I know Maggie knows who Dhani is. I think she likes him more than me.

7. Who will cut and paste this first?
Well, Nathan already did it. Liz does a lot. Maybe Leah.

8. Has anyone ever said you look like a celebrity?
Everyone said I looked like the female lead in "Man in the Iron Mask" when it was out in college and that's the only one I have EVER heard before. Maybe I should look her up so I actually know who they're talking about. Oh, it appears her name is Judith Godreche and she's French and is usually just in French movies which is why no one has ever seen her in anything else.

9. Do you wear a watch?
To work or anywhere else where I need to know what time it is. I usually take it off the moment I'm home.

10. Do you have anything pierced?
A rephrasing of the question, so I could point out that I have a gum wrapper here that has been pierced with a pen, if I really wanted to

11. Do you have any tattoos?
Sure, there's something that looks curiously like an eye on my left ank... forget I said that.

12. Do you like pain?
Um, no.

13. Do you like to shop?
Only sometimes.

14. What was the last thing you paid for with cash?
parking passes

15. What was the last thing you paid for with your credit card?
CREDIT card? I used debit to buy groceries, but credit... possibly a Christmas present. Yeah, probably the movie I got J from Amazon, because I think the default card in Amazon is the credit card. We've been trying to avoid the credit card so that the bill for it doesn't go up-- although it's not actually that high a bill. Just the concept of the thing. And then we can save the credit for emergencies that way. That or a cabinet for the dining room, which is almost an emergency. Or should at least be gotten by April.

16. Who was the last person you spoke to on the phone?
Jason

17. What is on your desktop background?
Hah, I just changed this one too. It's a banana. Jason is disturbed by its phallicness, but to me, it just looks like a banana, and I am always hungry, so I'm like "BANANANANNANANANNANAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!" and it also looks funny so it's a happy thing.

18. What is the background on your cell phone?
uhhh... grayness

19. What was the last movie you watched?
Um, Attack of the Clones, although at this point we never actually sit and WATCH any of those movies, we just put them on and shout comments at the screen in between doing other things in the living room like reading or whatnot. The last movie I saw for the first time was Kill Bill Vol 1 which was on TV, but Jason got bored before Vol 2 started so I never found out what happened (I assume more people got killed), although I was rather bored myself. The last movie I saw in a theater was... I have no clue. Pirates of the Carribbean Two?

20. What was the last book you read?
I can't remember for sure, it was something in a pile of middle-grade/YA books I'd gotten out... might have been The Loud Silence of Francine Green by Karen Cushman, but for some reason I think that was too long ago and I've read something since. Well, right now I'm slogging through "The Portable Writers' Conference" which is quite long, although some of the articles are very informative and some are even entertaining.

Then this next part is the one that YOU'RE supposed to do, right here in the comments section! Actually do it, as opposed to Carrie's friends who are all boring apparently:

1. Can you cook?

2. What would you do if you were stuck in an elevator?

3. What talent do you wish you had?

4. Favorite place?

Or you can do the easy one question version, from Jenny:
Reply to this post, and I'll tell you one reason why I like you. Then put this in your own journal, and spread the love.

Ok, I'll do it...

1. Can you cook?
Yes, and I'm quite good at it. Although I always worry that people are just being polite and telling me that what I made was excellent when it really sucked. So if I ever make something for you and it DOES suck, please let me know!

2. What would you do if you were stuck in an elevator?
I HATE elevators, almost as much as I hate escalators, but at least on an escalator you can't really get stuck. I'd probably whip out my cell phone and call Erica to make sure that it was a 911-able thing. If it was, I'd call them and tell them to get me out! (I'd probably have to pee in like, 20 minutes of being stuck there anyway.)

Oddly, on the radio out here they were mentioning how some girl was stuck in an elevator in France for three days. THREE DAYS! I only caught the end of the little bizarre tidbit, and since it was morning radio, they had lots of stupid comments going on which made it hard to follow. Still, don't go on any elevators in France.

3. What talent do you wish you had?
Ooh. Tough one. I do wish I was a better writer/composer/artist. I also wish I had at least some math skills. After that, I don't know.

4. Favorite place?
Lately, my bed. FOR SLEEPING.

5. Favorite vegetable?
Potato

6. What was the last book you read?
"The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" - fiction
and "The Mother of All Pregnancy Books" - Nonfiction
and "Toddler Cirriculum - Winter" - stupid at-work thing.

7. Are you Dirty or Clean?
At the moment, I could probably use a shower but I don't stink either. My breath is garlicky though.

8. Any Tattoos and/or Piercings?
My ears are pierced but I rarely wear earrings. No tattoos, although there was a phase where I considered getting one. I outgrew it when I saw how ridiculous old people with tattoos look.

9. Worst Habit?
biting my nails.

HERE COMES THE FUN ... ... ...

1. Do we know each other outside of Livejournal?
Yup.

2. What's your philosophy on life?
Love what you believe in, believe in what you love.

3. Negative or Optimistic?
mostly optimistic but I come across as being negative all the time.

4. What was your dream growing up?
oddly - being a lawyer. And owning a horse and riding it to school.

5. Worst thing to ever happen to you?
There's a LOT of bad things that happened to me, you pick.
a. Abusive relationship in College (before I met you)
b. Being engaged and finding out that he's cheating on you (not anyone you know, before I met you, again)
c. Working for Kindernazi-I mean Kindercare Corp.
d. Being diagnosed with a pre-cancerous condition in my throat, at the same time finding out that my blood levels were critically low (they thought I would have a heart attack before I got to the hospital) and having to have the ulcer in my throat completely stretched so that I could actually swallow solid food again. All without health insurance.

6. Would you give me money or a slap in the face?
Money. I don't like to hit people even when they deserve it, so why would I hit you???

7. Tell me one weird fact about you:I do my best thinking while in the shower.

8. Would you have my back or kick me when I'm down?
What's with all the violent questions? I'd probably just help you up. Pregnant people shouldn't be on the floor if they don't want to be.

9. Do you Trust me? Yes.

10. Have you ever kept anything from me? Probably, but not intentionally. I'm forgetful.

11. What do you think of me as a Person?
Sweet, quiet, shy, smart, could use a little toughening up, witty, clever, fun.

12. Do you think I'm sane or insane?
You married Jason, didn't you???

13. Would you cry for me if I died?
Of course. These are TERRIBLE questions!

14. Would you be my crime partner or my conscience?
Conscience, although I can't imagine you committing a crime either.

15. If you could change anything about me, would you?
I'd toughen you up a bit so you didn't cry so easily, but other than that, not really.

16. How do you fall asleep?
It used to be a struggle. I'd lie awake for hours sometimes.

Now, I collapse in bed and wake up 20 times to pee.

17. Would you come over to yell at me or just call?
I yell better via email.

18. If I only had one day to live would you be honest or lie?
I don't know. Which would you prefer? If I only had one day left, I'd want the truth so that I could make the most of it and get affairs in order. So I'd probably do that.

19. A million dollars.. what would you do with it?
Pay bills. Buy a house. Give to charity. Help out some friends. Invest it. Not necessarily in that order.

20. What is your worst fear?
losing/screwing up this baby.

21. Favourite thing to do in your spare time?
read, play computer games, watch tv

22. Can you sing or dance?
I can sing, allegedly. Although, it was a bunch of middle school kids that finally convinced me of that. They are usually brutally honest, and after I sang them an example of Mary had a little Lamb (several different styles, to show them something) one of the kids looks at me and says, "DANG, you should be on American Idol. You'd WIN." And she looked serious. The rest of the kids pressured me to audition, but I didn't. I told them no one wants a fat 29 year old to be their idol. But I also told them thanks.

23. In one word, how would you describe me?
Unique. Because that's all the more description you get with that silly question.

24. Will you repost this so I can fill it out?No, but if you want to, go ahead.

1. Can you cook?
Yes, and I'm quite good at it. Although I always worry that people are just being polite and telling me that what I made was excellent when it really sucked. So if I ever make something for you and it DOES suck, please let me know!

Well I can tell you that your Oreo balls rock, because I've finished them up now, and this has made me somewhat sad, because they are all gone. But I've probably had far too much chocolate in the past few weeks anyway.

Technically I guess that was one thing I like about you, too, but it's a bit of a cop-out, so I'll think of something else to say too. I like that you are a very matter-of-fact person who tells it like it is, and yet are not a hateful person. Some people tell it like it is in a very negative way, which is not so pleasant; but then there are those like you who tell it like it is so as not to be False, and that rocks.
